 Over 2000 years ago, Christ preached a profound sermon teaching us how Christians are to live.  Christ's words recorded in Matthew chapters 5,6 and 7 are often called the Sermon on the Mount.  The reason for this designation is that Jesus "went up on a mountain" to deliver this message.  Apparently, He did this to make it easier for His audience to hear what He was going to say.  According to John Stott, "The Sermon on the Mount is probably the best known part of the teaching of Jesus, though arguably, it is the least understood, and certainly it is the least obeyed."

Carol Workman
We are blessed once again to have Carol Workman teaching us this session.  Carol has been preparing for our study for months and she is excited to be with us again this Winter!
Carol has been spending winters in the desert since 1978. She raised her family in Ohio and then moved to Colorado where she has enjoyed summers for the last ten years. She and her husband, Chuck, have three children and six grandchildren.
Carol has been a speaker for Christian Women's Clubs for many years. Her great interest has been studying the Bible with other women and seeing God work in their lives. She has led studies both in community and Christian Women's Club settings and has written three Bible Studies.
I am looking forward to seeing you as we study God's Word together! If you have any questions, email me at jstangelo@desertspringsfamily.org or give me a call at 760-574-5040.

Spring Bible Study 2015

" Twelve Women of the Bible"

by Lysa Terkeurst

Don't you love authentic people?  Aren't you drawn to women who are transparent and real?  There is something fresh and wonderful about women who have nothing to hide and who are not ashamed about who they are... even the tough parts.

 In this study, "Twelve Women of the Bible",  we will meet a group of amazing women who are absolutely real.  At moments you might wonder why God captured these particular stories in the pages of his Holy Word.  Their stories are not fairytales, their road was not easy, and their examples are not perfect.

Though they lived in times and places quite different from our own, they teach us lessons that are deeply practical, holding up a mirror to our lives and souls that can help us better understand our own story.

We begin our Bible Study this Wednesday April 22, 2015!  Join us in the Family Room at Desert Springs Church.  This is a community study.  All women are welcome... bring a friend!

 In Twelve Women of the Bible, we will learn about the triumphs and failures of Mary Magdalene, Rebekah, Hannah and nine other women, learning how to:
  • Apply biblical lessons to their own modern-day struggles;
  • Live through their failures as well as successes;
  • Draw near to God in a world filled with trials;
  • Find lasting contentment;
  • Overcome rejection and insecurity;
  • And much more.

 Through twelve sessions, each focused on one biblical woman, this fresh look at the women in the Bible helps women discover new insights and provides a powerful witness to God's gracious love that will leave you feeling challenged, encouraged and deeply valued.

  In this Spring study, we will study the lives of 7 women (we have added Esther to our lessons) from the Old Testament.  This Fall, we will study 6 women from the New Testament.

We will study the lives of:
Esther, Trusting God
Eve, Finding Lasting Contentment in the Truth
Rebekah, Breaking Free of Feminine Stereotypes
Leah, Overcoming Rejection and Insecurity
Hannah, Surrendering in Waiting
Abigail, Dealing with Confrontation in Relationships
Gomer, Learning to Accept Unconditional Love
